Originally from India and with other common names: Cuban Red, and most commonly commercially in Australia, the Red Dacca. It is now so popular in the Caribbean, that it has acquired the name Giant Red Jamaican. It The stout, red trunked banana is beautiful, and produces top quality sweet, moist fruits with a buttery consistency. The unique skin of the banana is dark red to almost purple. It is a large leafed plant and grows to 15 - 20 feet fruiting in about 18-24 months. This variety prefers plenty of sun and rich, moist fertile ground. It is more disease resistant than other varieties. Fertilize heavily with 4-6-8 Citrus Granular Fertilizer monthly during the warm months.
